Zbigniew Brzeziński (1928–2017) was an American political scientist, a policy adviser and corporate consultant. Born in Poland, he moved with his family to Canada in 1938 and became a U.S. citizen in 1958. Brzezinski focused primarily on the Soviet Union in his scholarly work and was a member of the faculties of Columbia, Harvard and Johns Hopkins. He served as a foreign policy adviser under Presidents Johnson, Carter, Reagan and Bush senior. Brzezinski was one of the most influential figures of the Cold War, a consistent advocate for a position of global pre-eminence for the US.
